Dream Veils
Kerry and her Soldier Groom.
05/04/2012 by admin.
Here are four photos of Kerry- from her wedding in December 2011.
She wore a 126″ two layer cut edge veil.

In this photo Kerry looks so beautiful- The veil was sewn flat onto the comb- so giving a very sleek look.

I love the way the veil shows at Kerry’s side- the “Classic” cut edge gives such clean even- whispy edge.

This is such a fab photo!! As they are striding up the step together it reminds me of the tradition of “jumping over the broom” — like they are stepping into their new life together.
Thankyou so much Kerry for sending me the photos- you both looked amazing.
Many many hearty congratulations, all the very best for your future.

Dream Veils Girls- on tour in Rome.
31/03/2012 by admin.
This March Emma & I went on a little trip to Rome.
Now there was so much we saw & photos we took I can only put a few of them on here……..so here goes……
Our Hotel was the delightful Pensione Barrett http://www.pensionebarrett.com/indexuk.htm– a TRULY wonderful experience- right in the centre- within walking distance of everything. It is situated on Largo Torre Argentina. Michele and his wife- and all the staff are fantastic. He gave us a map and a little talk of all the interesting areas we should visit along with as many guide books as we needed, we felt very comfortable and happy there- like part of the family!!
The rooms were an experience in themselves- all decorated differently, here are two pics of our bedroom- one showing the mural over the bed and one of the painting in the bathroom.

Here is a piccy of Emma - drinking wine!! with the list given to us by Michele– we are in a restaurant that was recommended on this list.
The Palazzo was built directly above the ancient Forum of Pompeius (the biggest Forum of Imperial Rome with about 100 columns. The hotel faces the 4 temples datable as from the Republican Era (440 B.C.) situated ont Largo Argentina.
It is here, on the ides of March, under the statue of his political enemy Pompeius”, as historical tradition refers, that Julius Caesar was killed.
SO as Michele explains to all his visitors- Caesar was murderd in his cellar!!!
These ancient ruins are right infront of the hotel- and in amongst them is a cat sanctuary… you stand there looking at the ruins- then realise there is a cat curled up in an ancient vase.. or spread out along an ancient wall– or even atop a ruined column. You just dont notice them at first!! You can take the steps down to the little sanctuary office where they sell items to upkeep the place. Cats are sleeping everywhere. Its a lovely hidden place- worth a visit if you like cats.
Our first evening we walked down to the Pantheon and ate our dinner overlooking it and the square- and we were entertained by a fantastic clown- truly hilarious.

Then the next day we started our tours— we spoilt ourselves by having two private tours from Romeinalimo http://www.romeinlimo.com/ It was very hard to decide what tours we were going to do- and due to pressure of work on both our sides - we were on the last minute. Then with the added problem that Emma lives in London and I in Manchester- we had to liase only in the evening and then mostly by e-mails……… so what a joy it was that when I first approached Romeinalimo for help… Jany is also an e-mail/blackberry night owl !!! we were able to do all our arranging at the most stupid time of the day from 10. oclock till past midnight- BUT Jany was with us all the way!!! So by 9 oclock the following morning we had decided on our tours, and booked. The fact that Jany was there at that silly time of night was a total godsend to us!!! She is a true star!!
SO we decided on the first day………… a half day tour of The Vatican. Our guide was Sarah and she was a dream to be with. Very knowledgeable, especially on the art and sculptures and explained in great detail all of what we saw.
THE VATICAN

A view from a balcony overlooking Rome.

A sneeky photo of a beautiful staircase- where no-one was allowed- so I leant over and stuck my camera out!!

One of the beautiful ceilings……….. just a joy to behold!!

A Vatican Guard.

Inside St Peter’s—— The altar.

Michelangelo’s Pietà

St Peters Square.
————————————————————————————
Then for our second tour- we decided on a true day of being spoilt (and why not!) we had a full day in a limo!! So we were picked up in the morning by the wonderful Nicola- our driver- who just took us everywhere we wanted to go!!- but with also a meet up with a private guide, Nicol around Coliseum and Roman forums.
Now we had such a good time………. Sarah - our guide from the day befor said we must go to see Michelangelo’s Moses housed in the church of San Pietro in Vincoli…… but Nicola had it all in hand as one of the must places to go. The Church of San Pietro in Vincoli (St. Peter’s in Chains) owes its name to the precious chains that were said to have bound St Peter.

Michelangelo’s Moses in the church of San Pietro in Vincoli

Also the actual chains which are on show.
Also that morning we had a real treat… Nicola took us a lovely drive which ended at a peek-a-boo view of St. Peter’s dome through the keyhole on the gate to the headquarters of the Knights of Malta on Rome’s Aventine Hill
Now this is the piccy I managed to take….

But here is one I have downloaded to show you what we really saw…………..

JUST AMAZING!!!
Then it was onto the Trevi fountain……which unfortuantely we couldn’t get near enough to throw money into without killing some-one!!

We had lunch by the Spanish steps, then Nicola drove us to meet Nicol at the Colesium.
Nicol was an archaeologist- she brought alot of her own printouts and pictures and drawings to explain what we were seeing. She was so enthusiastic.

The inside of the Colesium

The Forum Circus Maximus
So here are just a few more piccies from our trip……….one evening we walked to the Tibor and here are some views from the night.

Below is Hadrian’s Mausoleum - taken from the bridge

Ok well that is for now………… if any further better piccs surface when Emma has downloaded hers I will add some- or replace some.
So for all you brides & grooms thinking about Rome for a Honeymoon…….. go there.. its amazing and I really recommend.
Pensione Barrett http://www.pensionebarrett.com/indexuk.htm Just mail Michel - tell them I told you!!!
and for a truly wonderful tour around the city.
Romeinalimo http://www.romeinlimo.com/ Just contact Jany– shes there ALWAYS day & night haha!!!
Love
Margaret & Emma

Three beautiful brides.
05/02/2012 by admin.
Here are photos that I have received over the last week from three absolutely beautiful brides.
All three are so different.
The first one is Karina from Dec 2011- wearing a tiny 42″ doubled Swarovski banded veil– so giving a 12″ drop. Stunning!!!!
The second one is Sivia - Dec 2011- wearing a 126″ firm silk two layer veil with edge stitch around.

Then the next two photos are of Rebecca - Sept 2011- wearing her 70″ two layer soft silk cut edge veil- similar to the veil worn by Catherine Middleton!!!
SO beautiful!!
Thank you girls for sending me your photos.

U-tube information videos
20/01/2012 by admin.
Oh well I suppose it was bound to happen!!!!!!
I have just spent two LONG days on my own!! making three videos to further explain about the veils and birdcages.
The first one which is quite long– 10 mins – is all about the whole birdcage collection, what they are and how to wear them
The the second one is about the differences between two layer veils and a single layer veil
Then the third one is a short video explaining the differences between the soft silk and the firm silk veils.
Now remember I am an amateur AND I was on my own so had to operate the camera as well as do the “acting” in a very Mancunian accent (which I am very proud to be- me & Brian Cox at least share something!!!)
I must admit I am very happy with them for the moment- no doubt as the months go by I will think of how I can do them better– but for now.. well enjoy!….. at least I hope you do.

A very late Happy New Year!!!!
12/01/2012 by admin.
Ohhh I am so sorry I havent been on the blog for a week or two, so I want to make up for it now and wish everyone a very happy 2012.
Already the hits on my site have been more than any time befor– and the orders are coming in thick & fast!!
So I am hoping to be able to fulfill all the orders that come into me– I would HATE to have to turn down orders!!!!- however I only have one pair of hands and as I make them all by myself (yes I am a control freak!!) I can only take on so many.
So I have started a New Year resolution - to schedule my work - AND stick to my lists!!! Honest!!!
I am now again trying to complete the final samples of the vintage veils- I keep changing my mind and changing them– so I am going to finalise them over the next few weeks.
I am also going to start embroidering towels- see the ones here- I made them for Emma and her boyfriend Hans for Christmas.

So watch the site for the options and pictures - I will get them up as soon as I can.
Thankyou again for all your support in 2011- and here’s to a haooy & prosperous 2012 to us all.

Daniela’s Embroidery
10/12/2011 by admin.
Daniela Brooker is supporting The Saturdays on their UK tour, and I had the great honour of embroidering her logo on some Christmas hats to wear on the rest of the tour– and on a complete set of towels.

From Daniela’s website….
“Most teenage girls can only dream of hearing one of their own songs played on the radio. But 18-year-old Daniela Brooker is living the dream, after a self-penned track, ‘Turn It Up’ was picked up by the Chris Evans Breakfast Show.
Not only that, she’s supporting The Saturdays on their UK Arena tour in December and completed a promo tour of the US this Summer where she was interviewed by Cosmogirl, Out Magazine and Latina. Daniela also performed at a special showcase for breaking artists at the NY Chapter of The GRAMMY Foundation at the invitation of the executive team and was also interviewed live on CNN Espanol.”

Look up her website. Daniela Brooker where you can read more about her and listen to some of her tracks.
Thanks Daniela– and lots of love and luck for the new year.
Can I also show here another little photo.
Above is a photo of Daniela with Daniel from Feedme Music. I also embroiderd a towel for him when he was first born.. and here is the photo…

My how soon they grow!!!!

Trip to London
18/11/2011 by admin.

Last week it was my birthday and I had a few days off to visit my Daughter Emma in London.
We went for a fantastic Veuve Clicquot Champagne lunch on the Thames on the Woods SiverFleet Thames Cruises - a Jaime Oliver Partnership.

First you are greeted with the Champagne (as much as you like!!!???? ) and canapes.
Then you find your table from the seating plan and enter the dining room.. where it’s all the wine you could wish for…..

This boat can be hired for your wedding– what a fantastic wedding venue!!!
See the sights of London- and experience the most fantastic food.
Some of the sights— it was a cool November day- and quite misty.
Part of the inside of the boat where the dining area is.
Then when the cruise was over… what did we spy??………..

YES… The Savoy….. WELL it was my birthday??? so we just had to go and finish our afternoon off having coffee there……..
So after a wonderful morning, and afternoon…
.. late afternoon, ready to walk to where we were meeting up with the family for MORE drinks and a show.
We went to see “Rock of ages” with the beautiful Shayne Ward
Fantastic day.
Ohhh just thought I’d also mention… the day after we went for a spa trip and afternoon tea to a hotel in London!!
So very spoilt!!!!

An Interveiw with Kay from Wrapor
17/11/2011 by admin.
Here is an interview with the most fantastic Kay from Wrapor wraps and shrugs.

Kay is in the middle- I am on the right at the opening of our friend Debbie’s bridal shop- Glamour Bridal & Prom- Bolton and on the left is Helen from CatsWhiskers cakes
We do have at least one mutual bride– above is a photo of Christine wearing my birdcage veil and Kay’s wrap.
What is it you do, and what services do you offer?
I have 20 years experience in the bridal wear business as a seamstress, this included making couture bridal gowns from start to finish as well as completing fittings and alterations on ready made dresses. I found that lots of brides to be are looking for a little coverage to upper arms and shoulders, as most wedding dresses are sleeveless. I would notice that those brides to be would often look uncomfortable during fittings, trying to keep a traditional wrap in place, especially whilst walking and carrying flowers etc. With this in mind I have created a clever alternative - an easier to wear garment which stays in place effortlessly, allowing you to enjoy you day. The Wrapor shrugs and boleros are all made to order from a wide range of fabrics and colours to match or compliment to fabric of your dress.
When and why did you start your business?
In April 2007 a friend asked me if she could help to cover a small tattoo on her shoulder on her wedding day. Kelly wasn’t too keen on bolero jackets, but instead requested a minimalistic style to just cover her shoulders and to compliment her dress without overpowering it. After several attempts with matching satin the Wrapor shrug was born! Kelly wore the new creation all day and into the evening and it stayed in place, even on the dance floor… she absolutely loved it! Shortly afterward I attended a short business course at MMU and I started trading as Wrapor in July.
The clever design looks like a traditional wrap from the front, but is tailored to slip on like a jacket it is made to match to fabric of your dress. Perfect if you would just like a little coverage to upper arms and shoulders, for added confidence, modesty or warmth on your big day. The design is registered with the IPO and I am a member of ACID (anti copying in design) To protect it from copyright.
What inspires you?
Brides to be are my inspiration! The design was created after years of working with excited brides to be who are passionate about their plans for their big day. We will often chat about different ideas to embellish the shrugs and boleros or will suggest different types of fabric I haven’t used before, sometimes I have to adapt the design to suit them by changing the length or shape, which I enjoy doing. I also love luxury fabrics especially silk. I will often see clothing or even plush soft furnishings whilst I am out shopping and I think how fabulous they would look made up as a Wrapor!
What has been your favorite assignment, and why?
Oooh there has been a few! A customer contacted me who had bought a gorgeous bright red silk wedding dress and was getting married in the Ice hotel in Sweden. I managed to find the exact shade of silk dupion, it matched perfectly and she looked stunning! I have very recently made a Flower of Scotland silk tartan shrug, which matches perfectly with the trim on the customers wedding dress, it looked gorgeous made up. It is always lovely to hear how grateful customers are when they receive their Wrapor’s especially if they have ordered them to cover imperfections such as scars after surgery.
What’s your greatest achievement?
I am quite proud of myself for taking the plunge to start my own business in the first place; my youngest son was only 18 months old at the time and the year before he had recovered from a life threatening illness, so it was a very difficult time for me. As any working Mum will tell you, juggling work and looking after a family is never easy, but I love it! And being my own boss means my hours are flexible and I can work around family commitments.
What’s the future for your Business?
I will be adding new lines to the website, other designs and different types of accessories in the future. I love working with brides to be, so I will always work within the industry and no doubt it will involve sewing. I am also starting to write a blog myself soon, so that will be a new challenge for me.
